March Favorites!!!

March is already on it’s way out Royals!

So it’s time to wrap up the month with my favorite products. Some of these products are new…And some of these products just haven’t gotten good use until now. Here we go!

Fahrenheit Double Trouble Heat Wave Collection Flat Iron (Purple Metallic)

I love Love LOVE this flat iron! When my Solia Tourmaline Ceramic flat iron I got on Folica.com DIED…yes, kicked the bucket…I thought I was going to have to spend a fortune for another flat iron. Now granted I only paid about $80 or $90, but that’s still a good chunk of money! My flat iron before that was a CHI and we all know how expensive those things are. All in all, I don’t really complain because I know that the higher-end ceramic irons do less damage to my hair. So in my opinion, it’s worth the $150-200 you can spend on one. That still doesn’t mean that I want to, lol.

During my quest to find a new straightener, I just so happen to spot this one at my local T.J. Maxx. The sleek design of the box it what really caught my attention. When I saw the price, I got even more interested. It looked a heck of a lot more expensive than what it was selling for. Turning over the box it said:

  • Professional Salon Model
  • The finest 100% SOLID ceramic plates
  • Ionized technology delivers constant heat distribution, while reducing bacteria
  • sleek, ergonomic, non-slip grip, designed for comfort
  • Heats to maximum temperature rapidly
  • Swivel cord prevents tangling
  • Looped end for easy storage
  • Variable temperature for all hair types
  • Limited Lifetime Warranty
  • Dual Voltage, 110-240v, 50/60Hz
  • Temperature 140 – 450 degrees Fahrenheit/ 230 Celsius

Alright…I’m sold! Did I mention that the MSRP is $275?!?! And I didn’t just get one flat iron, but TWO. Now I can’t speak for the mini flat iron because I haven’t used it. The main reason being that you can’t adjust the temperature, so it heats up to a strand scorching 400 degrees. Which is a bit too hot for my hair. I recently realized that my CHI did the same thing. True, it got my hair straight, but all that heat can’t be good. I use my Fahrenheit at about 325 degrees and it straightens it just fine in one pass. So what did I pay for this awesome flat iron? I found mine at T.J.Maxx for $34.99! However it’s been spotted at Marshalls, Folica.com, Amazon.com and many other places. Expect to pay anywhere from $30-80 depending on where you get it.

                  Murad Absolute Bronzing Boost

I got a good size sample of this last month in my Glam Bag (which I was highly disappointed in and CANCELED)….but anyway…I love it! It evens out my skin tone and gives me a glow on days I want to be lazy and apply minimal to no makeup. It’s light-weight and oil free, so it shouldn’t irritate your skin. Feel free to mix it in with your regular foundation to give it a summer kick. Not only is this a liquid bronzer, but it’s also a product that’s just plain good for your skin! It tints, firms and promotes skin health while boosting your skins UV resistance.

The only down-side to this product is the price ($38). That said, I think it’s worth it and would make a great addition to anyone’s makeup collection. It works for all skin tones and a little goes a long way! This product just fuels my theory that bronzing/fake self tanning may be good for those with darker skin tones. It doesn’t really add color for us, but it definitely enhances what the good Lord gave us.

GT Brand African Shea Butter

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you the benefits of Shea Butter. I feel the same about it as I do about olive oil- they’re liquid gold. What I love about Shea Butter is its staying power. It’s a thicker, creamier consistency than most oils and really sticks around. If I use it with my nightly bath, it keeps me moisturized until morning.

Recently, my mother picked up a 15 oz tub at her local beauty supply. By accident, I applied a minuscule amount to the ends of my hair before I went to bed. When I woke up my ends were moisturized and very soft! Since then, I’ve been apply  a teeny-tiny amount through the length of my hair for moisture and shine every couple of days. It gives my hair shine and weight without actually weighing it down. I know that’s an oxymoron, but it really does! I’ve been wearing my hair straight since I got it cut and I must say that using this stuff has made all the difference. My ends are actually my favorite thing about my hair now!

Hunger Games Trilogy (Books)

With all the hype surrounding this series, I was a little skeptical. It sounded decent enough, but how engaging could a tween series be to a full-grown, working  adult anyway?  In a word? VERY. The first book of the series ‘Hunger Games’ had me on the edge of my seat. I finished this series in a matter of three days. I just HAD to know how it ended. I won’t get into detail (I don’t believe in spoiler alerts) BUT it’s definitely worth your time.

The only thing I’m hoping is that the movie doesn’t disappoint. No…I haven’t seen it yet. Truthfully, there’s a part of me that doesn’t want to ruin the motion picture I’ve already created in my head. I’m a major bookworm and reading creates way more drama than a movie ever could. I felt that way about the ‘Twilight’ series. The movies were good, but the books were 1000 x better.

Henri Bendel Scented Candle in Vanilla Bean $30

Hands down one of my favorite candles EVER. Unlike most sugary sweet vanilla scented candles, this one has a sexy top note of musk that fills the air with warmth and sophistication. At $30 each, you can expect a candle that not only smells divine, burns slower than unrequited passion. I’ve had this candle for over a year now and it’s still going strong! I burned the heck out of it for months and got half way through, then my mother *cough* stole *cough* it from me and burned it down to about 15%. This is the type of candle with an aroma that fills the room without even being lit. I got mine at Bath & Body Works for a lot less, but I would definitely purchase it again at full price. Sometimes, you do need to believe the hype! If you ever see them on sale, I would suggest that you stock up. They come in a wide variety of scents, but this is the only one that I’ve personally tried. No doubt the others are just as good.

Enchanted Eye Cream by LUSH

I got this as a sample at lush and it’s worked it’s way into my daily routine. It helps my eye makeup (specifically my concealer) to go on much smoother and hopefully prevents future line and wrinkles. I’m told that you can never start using an eye cream to early, so I guess now that I’ve turned 27…*jeez*…It’s a good time to start! I don’t really have lines yet, but I do get puffiness and dark circles from lack of sleep like the rest of (wo)mankind. Here’s to hoping and that I can counter act all my night-owlin’ ways!

The Infamous Denman Brush

Relaxed or Natural, Curly or Straight, African-American or Not; The Denman Brush is a must-have styling tool for everyone. It comes in a variety of sizes and does a plethora of jobs. You could say it works hard for the money. It a great detangler for naturals, an instrumental companion in the perfect blow out and a fabulous styling brush to the general population. Ask anyone who owns a Denman, and they will tell you they give it a 12 out of 10 stars. I don’t know what the science behind the brush is, but I can tell you that when I brush through my hair with my Denman- It just looks better! I don’t lose a lot of (if any) hair and my strands look shinier. I picked mine up at Sally’s Beauty Supply for about $8.

China Glaze in Purple Panic (Neon)

It wouldn’t be a monthly favorites post without some nail polish. China Glaze’s ‘Purple Panic’ (which doesn’t look all that purple actually) has found its way onto my nails almost every week this month. Since neons are hot this season, why not bring your mani or pedi up to date? This color teeters on the line of purple and pink…And refuses to commit! Which is just fine with me because it’s gorgeous all the same. The formula is smooth and only requires two thin coats. Be aware that you WILL need to apply a high gloss top coat. It dries to a lack-luster matte finish.
